Position Title: Generalist, P&C

Location: Toronto ON

Reports To: Senior Director, People & Culture

Date: May 2025

I. Scope & Summary of Primary Responsibilities

The P&C Generalist is responsible for supporting a broad range of People and Culture initiatives, providing day to day support in P&C processes and employee relations matters. This role includes administering transactional P&C duties, utilizing HRIS systems, and maintain accurate employee records for respective groups. The HR Generalist will support managers with recruitment, onboarding, performance management, talent management, H&S, total rewards and other P&C projects while ensuring compliance with policies and employment legislation.

II. Essential Functions

The position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities:

Act as a first point of contact for managers and employees for general P&C related inquiries and support.

Partner with the Talent Acquisition Lead to support with the recruitment process as applicable to support with open vacancies.

Lead performance management including providing guidance to managers on performance management and coaching.

Support the administrator as applicable with P&C documentation, ensuring all employee records are accurate and up to date.

Partner with Total Rewards to ensure timely and accurate reporting of employee information, benefits administration and leaves.

Support managers with employee relations, fostering positive a culture between employees and managers.

Support the preparation and distribution of employee documentation as applicable.

Partner with the People and Development Business Partner to assist with the development and implementation of employee training programs.

Partner with the H&S manager to monitor WCB claims and manage the end-to-end process.

Ensuring compliance with employment legislation and internal policies, staying up to date with changes to relevant laws and standards for respective groups.

Lead P&C projects aimed at improvement P&C practices and outcomes.

Analyze and report on P&C trends and metrics to respective groups to inform decision making.

Other duties as assigned.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with managers and employees, balancing operational needs with employee support.

Collaborate with external recruitment agencies to support P&C initiatives as needed.

Work effectively as part of the P&C team or independently to achieve department goals.

Utilize analytical and creative thinking to address P&C related challenges and provide practical solutions.

Manage conflicting priorities and deadlines effectively ensuring high quality work is consistently delivered on time.

Work under the guidance of the Senior Director, P&C with autonomy to make decisions on routine tasks and processes.

Consult with Senior Director, P&C on complex issues or decisions that require higher level approval.

Stay current with trends in P&C and employment legislation.

Maintaining a positive, proactive attitude that contributes to the overall success of the department and the organization.

III. Qualifications

Knowledge and Skill Requirements (minimum required)

Strong organizational and time-management skills; adaptable to changing priorities, deadlines, and procedures.

Attention to detail and problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships across various stakeholders.

Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work with private and confidential material.

Adaptable and results oriented with the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.

Experience and Education (minimum required)

Minimum post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources Management or equivalent.

Completed or working towards CHRP.

Minimum 2 years general P&C experience.

Knowledge of various employment legislation (across Canada) and previous experience with collective agreements is an asset.

Advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite and previous experience working with HRIS systems; excellent data entry skills.
