Job Summary
The Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies invites applications for a qualified Program Assistant to join our Professional Cook program. Under the general direction of the Director, School of Trades, the Program Assistant will provide support to all programs in the Culinary Department.
The Assistant undertakes duties related to food storage and stock, program preparations, food safety requirements, lab cleanliness, student and staff support, inventories, cafeteria and dining room operations.
The Program Assistant provides ongoing support to culinary students and works under the daily guidance and direction of the culinary instructors.
Qualifications
- Completion of grade 12 and Red Seal qualification – Cook.
- Three (3) years related experience, preferably in a post-secondary teaching environment.
- Food Safe Level 1 required.
- Good working knowledge of culinary tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Good manual dexterity and physical fitness sufficient for lifting product up to 25 kg.
- WHMIS certification required.
- Must possess practical fire training / extinguisher knowledge.
- Must be highly motivated, detail oriented, able to prioritize tasks and efficiently accomplish goals and objectives.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, superior time management and organizational skills are required.
- Able to work independently with multiple deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Able to problem solve and function effectively in a fast-paced diverse work environment.
- Basic computer proficiency required, including Microsoft Office Suite.
