About the role

The Writing Centre Coordinator is an ongoing faculty position in the Integrative Learning and Assessment department, Faculty of Student Development. The Coordinator is responsible for coordinating pan-institutional academic writing supports—grounded in scholarly, andragogical, process-oriented practices—for all TRU students through peer tutoring and resource/curriculum development in support of student success.
The primary responsibilities for this faculty position include:

  • To coordinate provision of writing support for students in face-to-face, on-line, and graduate programs
  • To recruit, select, train, and support Writing Centre tutors through ongoing education and professional development opportunities and, with SL Coordinator, the Peer Academic Coaches (PAC)
  • To oversee the Writing Centre activities, including protocols, resources, and scholarly practices
  • To design and deliver or coordinate relevant workshops and presentations for students, faculty, or for specific courses/programs
  • To develop relevant supports and resources that are engaging, timely, and effective
  • To promote services and resources and to provide outreach support
  • To plan and manage the annual budget
  • To engage in service, internally and externally, that benefits the department, TRU, and the profession
  • To participate in ongoing professional development activities to keep abreast of current issues related to writing centres and academic writing in general and specific to higher education.
  • To teach relevant academic skills courses (e.g., STSS courses)

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Arts or Master of Education, or other relevant master's degree

  • At least one year of experience working in a post-secondary setting with diverse student groups

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in writing instruction
  • The capacity to recognize cultural influences on academic writing preferences and experiences
  • Experience with educational technologies
  • Experience working with international students or in ESL instruction an asset
