About the role

Your Opportunity:

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Services Supervisor, and operating within clinic protocols and industry standards, the Clinical Assistant – Health records works with each of the subspecialty divisions within the Department of Pediatrics to ensure that patient information is scanned or uploaded into the appropriate area of the patient electronic medical record (EMR) in a timely manner to ensure continuity in patient care. In consultation with the Clinical Services Supervisor, the Clinical Assistant – Health Records is also responsible for maintaining a filing, retention, and audit schedule for paper health records, distributing clinical correspondence, and assisting with the tracking of referral processing flow as workflows are transitioned from paper to electronic. This position plays a pivotal role in maintaining patient related documentation and information to achieve a complete, accurate and comprehensive patient record used by allied health professionals to make appropriate patient care decisions. The incumbent must be resourceful, demonstrate composure and maturity and professionalism, and will have demonstrated prior success in competently and efficiently managing strict deadlines and competing priorities.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum one (1) year professional clinical administrative or medical office experience. A high level of accuracy and competence with database management, EMR scanning processes, and computerized processes with the ability and desire to master new applications. Must be highly organized, able to set priorities and able to respond to immediate requests for information and maintain accuracy; demonstrates adaptability in accommodating competing and changing workload demands. Possesses well developed critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills; must be detailed-focused with an ability to determine missing or inaccurate information. Able to work collaboratively under moderate supervision in a fast-paced environment with shared work pools and high rates of change. Proven interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Familiar with FOIP and the Health Information Act.
