Summary of the role 

We are currently seeking a Research Assistant I to assist Dr. James Downar at the Bruyère Health Research Institute.

We are looking for a motivated Research Assistant I to join our team to actively contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of symptom management in palliative care, including psychological and existential distress. The Research Assistant I will play a role in supporting the day-to-day research activities of the research team. Key responsibilities include supporting clinical trial data entry (e.g., completing paper and electronic case report forms), data quality assurance (e.g., source data verification of participant documentation), and daily logistics to ensure that project objectives are met.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Process and enter data for research projects while ensuring data quality
  • Support the development of projects
  • Implement, and administer methods and procedures to enhance operations of the project
  • Assist with drafting manuscripts, conference abstracts, presentations, etc.
  • Assist researchers with literature searches of various literature databases
  • Use established or develop appropriate search criteria and maintain a compilation of references
  • Provide support to other project staff/participants as directed by investigator or other senior staff

Additional duties may be added as the projects progress

 

Qualifications

  • 1 year of relevant experience with research support (Essential)
  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma in health sciences or related field (Essential)
  • Experience using quantitative and qualitative research software (SPSS, SAS, NVivo) is an asset
  • Experience in a health profession, medical education and/or health sector is an asset
  • Training in Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS-2 Core), GCP Guidelines, and Health Canada Division 5 Regulations is an asset

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manage overlapping project phases, support investigator and team leads, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and organization skills, including the ability to adapt to a dynamic project environment
  • Exceptional communication skills, including written and verbal (in English)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Fluent in French is an asset
