About the role

Greenstone was created by the amalgamation of the former municipalities of Geraldton, Longlac, Nakina and Beardmore. It also includes settlement areas such as Caramat, Jellicoe, Macdiarmid and several First Nations communities. Greenstone is a single tier municipality in the District of Thunder Bay. It has a population of about 4,600 and a geographic an area of 3,172 sq. making it one of the largest municipalities in Canada.

Greenstone is known as "Nature’s Hometown.” Located just off Trans-Canada Highway 17, turning onto Highway 11 at Nipigon, the unspoiled beauty of Greenstone unfolds with miles of Boreal Forest and vast numbers of lakes and river systems. Thunder Bay is a short three-hour scenic drive away.

With a combined operational and capital budget of approximately of $40M and more than 100 permanent, part-time and seasonal staff, Greenstone is committed to meeting the needs of its residents and business community by delivering efficient and effective services.

As the successful candidate you will have a strategic mindset, coupled with the ability to optimize approach, and skillfully deliver a range of community services in a constantly changing environment.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Community Services position is accountable for over 25 staff and the overall management, financial and fiscal responsibility for forward thinking strategies and effective management and operation of Community Services Division which includes, Social Services and Ontario Works, Housing, Children and Family Services, Senior Services and other community-based services.

Ideal qualifications

A University degree, in Social Sciences, Social Work, Psychology, Health Sciences or other relevant discipline, or a two-year College diploma in a relevant discipline with more than 5 years experience in administration and social services. Seasoned leader with extensive experience leading complex operations in any of Social Services, Housing, Seniors Services, Children Services or other community-oriented programs related to social or health services. Superior strategic and operational management expertise to lead, motivate and inspire teams to achieve operational, policy and program goals and unite around a shared vision. Experience employing interest-based approaches to achieve successful outcomes with internal and external partners. Demonstrated success in developing relationships and communicating with municipal, provincial and federal governments, other partners as well as staff and community members that we serve.
