About the role
Position Purpose and Summary
The Director of Facilities provides leadership to the Maintenance, Grounds and Custodial departments with specific attention to managing all reactive, proactive and deferred maintenance issues across our facilities.
Key Areas of Accountability
Facilities Operations and Maintenance Management
- Provide leadership and management for facilities operations
- Provide strategic and facility management oversight for off-campus locations (e.g., Richmond, LLC), ensuring alignment with campus standards, operational continuity, and regulatory compliance.
- Resolve technical issues and failures quickly and efficiently
- Provide strategic direction to the overall maintenance and operation of the campus
- Provide technical advice on all aspects of facility services across campus
- Provide recommendations to the AVP of Campus Services on prioritizing reactive, preventative and deferred maintenance issues
- Oversee the monitoring and metering of the University's major utilities
- Responsible for the strategic planning of each department systems (water, electrical, mechanical, storm water, sanitary sewer and natural gas) to ensure continuous and uninterrupted operation
- Monitor and control energy costs, striving to continually reduce those expenditures
- Ensure work conditions are safe and conducive to efficient operations
- Perform special assignments that involve technical investigation or analyses
- Recommend solutions to unique engineering and administrative problems as they arise
Administrative Management
- Assist in the development, monitoring, and management of facilities budgets
- Oversee the execution and analysis of work
- Oversee procurement and implementation of service and construction contracts/projects as needed
- Provide leadership and project management oversight for capital projects (new builds and major renovations) across campus, ensuring delivery within scope, budget, and institutional objectives.
- Provide facility status reports as directed by the AVP of Campus Services
- Develop and implement a snow clearing protocol
- Plan and make recommendations to university leaders on space requirements
Staff Management, Supervision and Training
- Manage, mentor, and develop direct reports and the wider departmental team
- Oversee all administrative aspects of employee management, including performance reviews, hiring, updating of job descriptions, and similar tasks
- Oversee scheduling of staff, on-call, and overtime processes and procedures
- Define departmental goals and policies to managers to assure objectives are being met
- Provide guidance to managers and team members when needed, in handling day-to-day operational problems and grievances
- Conduct frequent meetings with staff to review plans, policies and to receive feedback
- Schedule and attend staff meetings
Campus and Community Relations
- Work closely and collaboratively with all departments within Campus Services and across the University
- Resolve customer complaints
- Develop positive relationships with all members of our community
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining an atmosphere of spiritual growth amongst all managers/staff through weekly staff meetings
- Provide leadership in encouraging Christian relationships within the community
- Encourage a prayerful and discipling approach to the completion of individual daily responsibilities

Job Standards and Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Facility Management, Architecture, Building Construction, Construction Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology)
- Certification as a Facilities Manager (CFM). P.Eng. preferred Professional degree in related field(s) preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 8–10 years progressive experience in facilities management, including at least 5-7 years in a supervisory or management capacity overseeing multi‑disciplinary facilities operations (maintenance, custodial, grounds and/or utilities systems). Experience with capital project coordination and contract administration required.
