As a Recruit File Backgrounder you will be responsible for conducting a minimum of seven thorough investigative reference interviews, developing cascading reference interviews as required for each Calgary Police Service (CPS) applicant and complete a summary report for each applicant you review. Primary duties include:
- Conduct investigative reference interviews for each applicant, including, when possible, cascading references to gather all relevant reference information.
- Track and log all background file assignments and ensure quality control of all backgrounding summary reports, assist with training of new background investigators and liaising closely with file managers.
- Submit detailed, typed reports of reference findings in a specified time period and present the report at selection committee meetings.
- Assist with pre-screen reviews as required. Some exposure to graphic and sensitive information. Some exposure to graphic and sensitive information.

Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED) and at least 3 job/policing related courses, including courses related to police interviewing techniques and police investigations.
- A minimum of 5 years as a Police Officer.
- Experience in investigative interviewing is required.
- Previous experience in dealing with confidential information is also required.

Pre-employment Requirements
- An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Hours of work: On-Call hours will vary based on operational needs. No guaranteed number of hours.
Days of work: On-Call shifts vary based on operational requirements.
