About the role
The Law Clerk supports the Legal function in managing legal and regulatory matters related to KFC’s franchise operations across Canada. This role ensures compliance with franchise laws, assists in the preparation and review of franchise disclosures, franchise agreements and related documents, and provides administrative support. The Law Clerk plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of the franchise system and supporting the growth and development of the KFC brand through sound legal practices.
Manages franchise disclosure process end-to-end, including required disclosure and annual updates Drafts, reviews, and maintains franchise agreements, renewals, amendments, extensions Prepares compliance documentation, including letters of concern, defaults and terminations Tracks key dates and obligations under franchise agreements (e.g., renewal deadlines, compliance milestones) Monitors changes in franchise legislation and advises internal stakeholders accordingly Prepares legal correspondence, memoranda, and reports Drafts all Non-Disclosure Agreements and Supplier Testing and Development Agreements Files and organizes legal documents, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy Manages all legal invoices and oversees the legal budget Responds to inquiries from franchisees regarding legal and compliance matters Assists in resolving franchise-related matters under the guidance of legal counsel and development managers Supports the preparation of corporate filings and maintenance of corporate records Works closely with internal departments (e.g., operations, finance, real estate) to ensure legal alignment in franchise development and operations Liaises with external counsel as needed
Education/Certifications
Required: Law clerk diploma, law clerk certification, or relevant work experience in lieu of formal education or accreditation
Experience
Have 3+ years of experience managing franchise disclosure Exercise strong organizational and document management skills Be detail-oriented Thrive in a fast-paced environment with a collaborative, can-do attitude Be a self-starter who asks questions, seeks clarity, and drives projects forward independently Collaborate with cross-functional teams with a positive, solutions-oriented approach Actively contribute to a strong culture that embodies Yum!’s Smart, Heart and Courage values Be a problem-solver who is comfortable with ambiguity

The expected hiring range for this role is $66,000 to $90,000 CAD, inclusive of base salary and target annual performance bonus. Final compensation will be based on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
