The University of Calgary Medical Clinic in the Cumming School of Medicine is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Relief Billing Analyst for approximately 14 months.
The Billing Analyst is responsible for the auditing and verification of tasks relating to the Alberta Health Care billing function for members (physicians) of the University of Calgary Medical Group, including reviewing, validating and auditing information submitted by physicians via Connect Care to ensure timely submission and payment of medical billings.
Each Billing Analyst will be supporting a minimum of 65 physicians each billing cycle and fulfilment of Standard Operation Policy claims submissions per month.
This position reports to the Manager, UCMG.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Accurately compile, verify, audit and process medical data submitted by physicians via Connect Care to ensure accurate and timely submission and payment of medical billings Diligently perform audit checks to ascertain the correct billing codes and modifiers to ensure timely and effective payment of physicians Perform research on submissions of appropriate diagnostic & health services codes to ensure accurate billing is in the system, and physicians are paid appropriately Ensure completion of tasks as per internal cut off period timelines and as per Alberta Health billing submission deadlines Ensure timely and accurate billing submission for clinical Alternative Relationship Plan (cARP) and Academic Medicine Health Services Program (AMHSP) Comfortably address late submissions and issues with Alberta Heath and physicians Maintain high degree of confidentiality of sensitive financial & patient private medical information Generate and analyze weekly reconciliation reports. Perform corrective processes to ensure timely payment of claims for member physicians. Supply physician members reconciliation reports, as their only statement of assessment Advise and update physicians on new billing regulations and codes relevant to their specialties Develop and maintain an understanding of Academic Medicine and Health Services Program, Clinical Alternative Relationship Plans and Fee for Service Billings Develop, establish, and maintain good working relationship with physicians, administrative assistants and colleagues Provide versatile and competent coverage for co-workers during vacation, absences, and in high volume times
Qualifications / Requirements:
Completion of Medical Office Assistant Certification or any post secondary certification in a medical field Minimum 4 years experience providing medical billing services Knowledge of and/or experience with Alberta Health billing processes, rules & regulations required Strong critical thinking skills while performing auditing tasks and problem-solving billing issues Knowledge of health information privacy regulations and handling of confidential and sensitive information is required. Adherence to code of confidentiality due to sensitive patient & financial billing information is required Knowledge of medical terminology and medical records management is required Knowledge of primary healthcare and billing diagnostic and service codes are required The ability to provide exceptional customer service and work in a team environment are required High Level of accuracy and attention to detail in validating & auditing physician billing is required Ability to effectively problem solve respond and to queries in an efficient manner is required Excellent knowledge & skills using Microsoft Office Suite Knowledge of Connect Care billing preferred Excellent verbal & written communication skills. Must be comfortable communicating with and addressing issues involving both Alberta Health and Physicians Excellent organizational, time management & coordination skills Highly adaptable in billing for different specialties and groups of doctors (e.g. AMHSP/FFS/cARP) and able to prioritize workload based on billing requirements Understanding of Freedom of Information & Privacy and Patient Confidentiality an asset Must be able to manage a high volume of data validation and auditing with ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. Self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and in a team setting are important
