About the role
An established organization is seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper / Payroll Clerk to join its finance team. This permanent, full-time position is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and has experience managing payroll, bookkeeping, and accounting responsibilities with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring payroll is processed accurately and in compliance with applicable legislation while supporting day-to-day accounting operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the finance department, responsibilities include: Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and within established deadlines. Review employee time records and payroll data for accuracy and compliance with employment legislation, organizational policies, and collective agreements. Complete payroll-related employee transactions including new hires, status changes, deductions, taxable benefits, vacation pay, statutory holiday pay, overtime calculations, and Records of Employment. Ensure compliance with Canada Revenue Agency requirements and applicable payroll legislation, including CPP, EI, income tax, WSIB, and Employment Standards legislation. Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting payroll and implement required updates. Prepare payroll reconciliations, remittances, year-end reporting, T4s, and other payroll-related documentation. Perform accounts payable functions, including invoice processing and vendor payment preparation. Reconcile vendor statements and investigate discrepancies. Prepare customer invoices, record payments, and assist with accounts receivable collections. Process deposits, banking transactions, and maintain accurate financial records. Assist with month-end and year-end accounting activities. Provide administrative support as required and maintain organized financial records. Protect confidential information and perform duties in accordance with established policies and procedures. Carry out other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Administration, or a related discipline. Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation, or progress toward certification, is considered an asset.
Experience Three to five years of progressive payroll and bookkeeping experience. Experience administering payroll in a unionized environment, including interpretation of collective agreements. Experience with full-cycle bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll reconciliations, and general accounting functions.
Knowledge & Skills Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and statutory requirements. Experience administering payroll in accordance with collective agreements. Proficiency with payroll and accounting software. Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills. Excellent organizational and time-management abilities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Professional communication skills, both written and verbal. The ability to manage competing priorities while meeting critical deadlines. A high level of discretion when handling confidential information.
This position is based on a regular Monday-to-Friday daytime schedule, with occasional flexibility required during payroll processing and year-end activities.

Salary: $55,000-$70,000 annually Compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate's education, experience, qualifications, technical knowledge, and overall suitability for the role.
