Job Description

The Resident Care Worker is the first point of contact for Clients/Residents and the Public and will perform outlined job duties to assist all Clients/Residents and Visitors to the Harbour Light as requested.

The Resident Care Worker is responsible for the following range of job duty characteristics, or typical of the job class.

Supervise actions and interactions of Clients during assigned Shifts and maintains availability for personal and moral support. Respond to Client questions and requests and assists within framework of Centre policies and procedures Answer telephone and direct calls appropriately. Deal with any visitors wishing access to the Centre making certain that Sign-In/Out information is recorded in Book. Accurately record daily events using appropriate methods. Maintain Logbook as per guidelines, computer files at front desk, and complete required incident or occurrence reports, delivering copies to appropriate Management personnel in a timely and accurate fashion while maintaining required confidentiality. Act as liaison with all referral sources and external Agencies such as Ministry of Health, Ontario Works, Police, Corrections Services Canada, and other Service Agencies to direct or answer inquiries as required. Co-ordinate Client care in Client Program relating to security of property and persons. This will involve doing regular building rounds, inside and outside as scheduled, bed and curfew checks, room and property searches as required, monitoring camera systems. Administer drug and alcohol screening tests according to protocols set out by Management. Handle admission, recording and orientation of Clients booking in to Client Program. Fills out all required Forms, checks identification, enters information in Client Record System, gives Client Orientation in accordance with written Policies and Procedures. Assists with Discharge of Program Clients by receiving bedding, room key and other Centre property at time of Discharge and processes return of Key Deposit. Also insures that departing Client/Resident receives all personal goods held in storage according to Centre Policies & Procedures. Records and stores all Client Medication in Medicine Lock-Up. Gives medication to Clients at required times upon request and ensures that Clients sign Medication Log. Accepts cash donations if brought to Centre after business hours, records name of donor and amount given, issues temporary receipt and forwards money and full information on donor and amount to Bookkeeper at earliest possible opportunity. Accept mail and delivery of packages, and forward to Management as per Policy & Procedures Maintain and update Client/Resident Bed Assignment Roster Maintain and update Counsellor’s Client List as required Launder and distribute Shelter bedding as required If on Evening Shift, goes to Kitchen and puts out evening snack for Clients as prepared by Kitchen Staff. Announces Snack time and ensures that clean up is done following snack time. Participate in all scheduled Staff Meetings as required. Assist in Kitchen duties as directed

NOTE: Not all incumbents will perform all of the duties outlined above, but will perform a similar range of duties

Minimum Education Level Attained

Degree or Diploma in one of the human services professions

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certification Of Requirements

Any specialized courses and/or training in the following areas will be of benefit:

WHMIS Training CPR/First Aid Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Basics of Fall Protection Food Handlers Course

Minimum Prior Related Experience

The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:

More than three months but less than one year related experience, including some front-line work experience within a social services/addictions setting.

Must have availability - part time- Saturday-Sunday (plus stat holidays) 8-4pm

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $18.65 to $18.99 with a maximum of $19.32.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
