About the role

About Yellow Duck Finding childcare in British Columbia is harder than it needs to be. Parents put their names down at centre after centre and often hear nothing for months. By the time a spot opens up, the list is frequently out of date. Families have moved, changed their plans, or found care somewhere else. Applications arrive missing the details a centre needs to make a decision, so somebody has to chase them down.

Centres are rarely short of interest. What they're short of is time. A lot of them run enrolment through spreadsheets, voicemail and paper forms, and the chasing and re-confirming eats hours that should be going to the children in their care. Yellow Duck is building for both sides of that. We help families find centres with availability, and we're working on tools that take some of the administrative load off providers. We're launching in Vancouver and Victoria.

Our founder, Muna, started the company after going through the childcare search for her own daughter and finding the whole thing far more opaque than it should have been. We're self-funded, small and early.

The role We're looking for a personal assistant to work closely with our founder and take on the administrative weight of supporting an early-stage company. It's 20 to 25 hours a week, and we'll build the schedule around what works for you. School hours fit this job well.

Expect some variety. Parts of it are administrative: the calendar, the inbox, the follow-ups nobody else is tracking. Parts of it may involve travel to trade shows and industry events. And at a company this size, some of it is just whatever lands that week.

You'll end up knowing her schedule and priorities better than she does. When something starts to slip, you're the one who catches it. When she's in back-to-back meetings, you're the reason the next thing is ready.

What you'll do Own the calendar. Scheduling, rescheduling, protecting focused time, making the week actually work. Run the inbox. Triage, drafting, replies, flagging what needs her and handling what doesn't. Coordinate travel and logistics, including coming along to trade shows and industry events and managing the details on the ground. Prepare for meetings. Briefing notes, background, materials, follow-ups. Keep operational threads from dropping. Documents, vendors, expenses, and the small things that pile up quickly at a young company.

Treat that as a starting point rather than a fixed list. We'd like to shape the role around what you're good at, and there's room to take on more as you settle in. If there are areas you want to develop, we're eager to support that, too.

What we're looking for Strong organization. You have a system you trust, and nothing important lives only in your head. Good writing. You can draft on someone else's behalf and capture their voice. Professional presence. You may represent our founder, and by extension Yellow Duck at events and in conversations with centre operators, partners and parents. Discretion. You'll have access to business and personal information both, and it needs to be safe with you. Anticipation. The best assistants tend to have solved the problem before anyone thinks to raise it. Willingness to travel occasionally, including the odd overnight. Based in Victoria, since the role is hybrid and some of it needs to happen in person.

Experience supporting a founder or an executive counts for a lot, though judgment and initiative count for more. If you've been out of the workforce for a while and this sounds like your kind of work, please do get in touch.

Being upfront about the stage we're at We're self-funded and at the beginning, and the pay reflects that. It sits above minimum wage but below what an experienced assistant earns somewhere established. We'd rather say so now than have you work it out at the offer stage.

What comes with it: equity in the company, a commitment to revisiting pay after our first raise, hours that fit around the rest of your life, and the sort of access you'd usually wait years for. You'd be among the first people here, with a close view of how a company gets built and a hand in helping to build it.

To apply: Send your resume to hello@yellowduck.co, and tell us two things while you're at it. First, what draws you to this role. Second, something you're proud of. A work project, a personal passion, something you built or fixed or figured out. It doesn't have to be related to the job. We're curious what you care about.

Comfort with AI tools is an asset here, though we'd much rather read your words than a model's.

In exchange, we read everything that comes in.

About Yellow Duck

Child Day Care Services
2-10 employees
Founded in 2026

Yellow Duck has one big goal: becoming the single, streamlined operating system for childcare.

Licensed childcare providers run some of the most important businesses in our communities. Yet the tools built for them haven't kept up. Enrolment gets stuck in spreadsheets. Waitlists pile up in inboxes. Payments end up scattered everywhere.

Any parent who has tried to navigate childcare feels the pain too. Directionless searching, emails into the abyss, and getting ghosted are all par for the course.

Yellow Duck brings it all together: one platform for enrolment, waitlist management, billing, and parent communication, purpose-built for providers. And a single place for parents to search, apply, monitor, and pay.

We're launching in British Columbia in February 2027, with plans to grow wherever providers need us most.

If you run a licensed childcare centre and want early access, or just want to tell us what's broken, we'd love to hear from you.

Let’s get our ducks in a row.
