General Purpose
Computing and Communications Services (CCS) is the central IT department at the University of Guelph, providing core IT services and technology solutions to the U of G community. The Communications and Finance position supports the communication and financial needs of the CCS department. Reporting to the Manager, Communications and Culture, and receiving functional input from the Manager, Business Operations and Human Resources, this role supports departmental communications initiatives, engagement activities, and supports financial operations across CCS, serving a community of over 100 staff, 30–50 student employees, and 16 directors and managers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Communications and Culture

Communications support for IT-related initiatives, which includes writing content for social media, newsletters, blog posts, web copy, digital signs and more.

Supports project management, coordination and production of communications materials, working with our graphic designer, clients and vendors as appropriate.

Assists with planning and promotion of events, including Spring IT Day, O-week activities, CCS social events, retirements, and cyber security month.

Develops print and digital materials to promote/inform U of G about CCS services.
Financial Support

Assist with invoice processing, coding, and documentation to support timely payment

Prepare low‑value purchase orders and support departmental recoveries and chargebacks

Review expense claims and reconcile departmental credit card statements

Assist with journal entries, internal billings, and manual invoices
Requirements
- Completion of a 2-year diploma in Business Management, Communications or a related field.
- A year of experience working in communication or administrative position preferably in a unionized or public‑sector environment.
- Experience with communications work, including social media coordination and content creation, writing web content and supporting event management.
- Knowledge of financial systems and BPS purchasing policies.
- Proven independent judgment for decision-making, task prioritization, and time management while dealing with conflicting priorities and deadlines.
- Must possess exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail when managing a high volume of diverse responsibilities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and respect for privacy.
- Familiarity and comfort with Microsoft 365 suite of tools (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint) is an asset.
