This position is located in St. Paul and may have the ability to telework, after satisfactory completion of training and probationary period.
This position exists:1) to administer a general program email inbox, 2) to perform data entry for bovine health programs, including data related to Animal Disease Traceability and Livestock Concentration Points, 3) to process livestock Certificates of Veterinary Inspection, 4) to answer telephone lines including the import permit line for incoming cattle, sheep, and goats, 5) to enter disease testing and vaccination records; 6) to assist customers ordering official identification ear tags for livestock; and 7) to assist callers with questions about other Board programs.
Minimum Qualifications

Typing/Keyboarding skills sufficient to use Microsoft Word or equivalent software, sufficient to produce memos and correspondence in an efficient and timely manner,grammatically correct, in proper format and free of spelling errors. Spreadsheet skills sufficient to use spreadsheet software applications, such as Microsoft Excel, to develop and modify spreadsheets and enter, compile, store, and retrieve data. Data entry skills sufficient to input and verify data from source documents into a database with a high level of accuracy and speed, maintain accurate records, and locate and correct data entry errors. Data Base Management skills sufficient to pull relevant data from databases and software applications, and compile in appropriate report format. Customer Service Skills sufficient to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone,and through e-mail and other written correspondence (i.e., answer questions and advise customers of program policies, procedures, and regulations, etc.) and effectively communicate and elicit information with tact and diplomacy. English (speaking and/or writing and/or reading orally)sufficient to communicate effectively with internal and external customers and to compose and edit a variety of documents using proper business English, spelling, and grammar.
Preferred Qualifications
Administrative Assistant degree (AAS – HealthCare, Legal,etc.) or experience providing administrative, clerical, or paraprofessional support in an office setting. Experience working with or knowledge of livestock agriculture, basic animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, and animal diseases sufficient to knowledgably communicate with producers, veterinarians, and agency officials. Knowledge of state and federal laws and guidelines relating to animal disease programs. Knowledge of general office equipment, practices, procedures sufficient to develop and improve work procedures and forms. Effective oral and written communication skills sufficient to work constructively and collaborate with a wide variety of individuals including the public and others within State and Federal government agencies. Excellent organizational skills sufficient to maintain manual and electronic files and prioritize work assignments and a strong attention to detail. Experience with software including Microsoft Office Outlook,Word, and Excel;and Adobe Acrobat. Ability to be resourceful and self-motivated and work without close supervision.
Additional Requirements
The Board of Animal Health will not sponsor applicants for work visas, including STEM OPT extensions. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the US.
