The Thorncliffe Park Women’s Committee (TPWC), is award‑winning grassroots organization, is inviting applications for Operational Board Members to help guide and strengthen our next chapter of growth.
Position Summary & Job Purpose This role blends governance leadership with hands-on operational support, ideal for individuals who want to contribute their expertise to a community‑driven organization rooted in equity, empowerment, and public‑space transformation.
We are especially seeking candidates with experience in: Fundraising/Grant Writing Marketing and Communications Note: This is an unpaid position.
About The Thorncliffe Park Women’s Committee
The Thorncliffe Park Women’s Committee is a grassroots organization that has been working since 2008 to create and implement public space enhancement projects in the community of Thorncliffe Park (Toronto), empowering women and supporting the community. Projects have included the rejuvenation of the local RV Burgess Park, North America’s first-ever Tandoor Oven, Park Cafe, running the Friday Night Community Market, Youth Stewardship programs, the community garden, and most recently, pivoting during the pandemic to create the Neighbours in Need program delivering hot culturally appropriate meals made locally at the Park Cafe.
Our work has been recognized through several major awards, including: Neighbourhood Park Award: celebrating our leadership in revitalizing RV Burgess Park into a vibrant, inclusive community hub Tomorrow’s Community Champion Award: honouring our long‑standing commitment to grassroots leadership and community empowerment
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership to the organization, ensuring that the mission, vision and goals are being met. Prepare for meetings by reviewing the agenda and supporting documentation. Attend regular board and committee meetings and participate actively and conscientiously. Approving reports, budgets, and business decisions. Contribute to the development of policies and strategic plans. Understand the organization’s financial affairs and ensure fiduciary responsibilities are met. Ensure the organization complies with legal requirements. Maintain confidentiality in all internal societal affairs.

Additional Qualifications Previous board experience is considered an asset. Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills.
Time Commitment Board members contribute approximately 6–10 hours per month, including: Bi‑monthly board meetings (six per year), typically held on the final Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. The July board meeting is held in person to support relationship‑building and strategic planning The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is also held in person each October/November Additional ad hoc meetings may occur for grants, finances, or special initiatives All other regular meetings are currently held virtually.
Terms of Service Each Board Member is elected to hold office for a 3-year term and may be eligible for re-election.
