The base salary will be $74,990 - $107,050 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is the largest Faculty on campus and employs over 2,000 part-time and full time faculty and over 1,000 staff.

Responsibilities

The Manager, Dentistry Education is accountable for providing administrative leadership to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the academic programs in Schulich Dentistry. Reporting to the Director, Dentistry Operations and supporting the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Dental Education and the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Dental Education, the role will provide leadership in the areas of academic and administrative support for all programs within Schulich Dentistry, ensuring success of the Doctor of Dental Surgery, Internationally Trained Dentists, Graduate Orthodontics, General Practice and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency programs. The Manager ensures clear and current information is available and efficient processes are in place for academic leaders and staff within the programs, as well as for current and prospective students, while participating in the development and implementation of academic plans, policies, and procedures related to Schulich Dentistry academic programs, identifying opportunities for improvement, and ensuring adherence with University policies and procedures and accreditation standards. The Manager also ensures learner support in areas of progression, appeals, and reporting; manages external and internal relations with the program, school and partners; coaches and trains staff; and provides comprehensive consultation on a variety of processes to ensure the University community is served effectively.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree; in Business Administration preferred
  • Master’s Degree in Education or Business Administration is preferred

Experience:

  • 5 years' of:
    • Experience providing administrative support and coordination in a higher education institution
    • Experience with developing, implementing, analyzing, and interpreting academic policies and procedures
    • Demonstrated leadership experience in a face-paced environment
    • Demonstrated work history of establishing and maintaining positive professional relationships with a variety of stakeholders at all levels
    • Experience supervising staff; preferably in a unionized environment
  • Preferred:
    • Experience in program evaluation and needs analysis
    • Experience in curriculum development and renewal

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general office procedures, and of best practices for assessing, developing and implementing new business processes and procedures
  • Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design methods
  • Knowledge of accreditation, continuous quality improvement, evaluation and assessment principles and processes
  • Ability to evaluate the strengths and areas in need of improvement of courses based on best practices and evaluations from students and instructors
  • Openness to recognize when change is necessary, and to develop, implement and lead effective change management strategies
  • Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one’s own unit
  • Ability to write clear, concise and accurate procedural documentation
  • Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
  • Ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
  • Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service to directly and indirectly satisfy expectations
  • Attention to detail with an ability to retrieve, analyze and synthesize sizable amounts of data, while ensuring that information is accurate and comprehensive
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development with a desire to take on new challenges
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
  • Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the University’s events and activities
  • Ability to listen, inform, explain, and advise students on academic processes and regulations
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Interpersonal skills to liaise with prospective and current students, staff, faculty and other members of the Western community
  • Ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
  • Ability to effectively present information, and conduct training sessions and workshops
  • Ability to lead and develop rigorous recruitment processes, ensure on-going training and development, and performance management
  • Ability to plan and manage events of various sizes
  • Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
  • Ability to promote individual growth by encouraging others to learn new skills and develop themselves
  • Ability to perceive and understand the emotions of others and interact with them appropriately based on those emotions
  • Capacity to consider issues from the perspective of others
