What This Position is About:

Accessible Education Advisors in Accessible Education Services assist learners with disabilities in identifying a pathway to educational equity and implementing strategies for successful completion of their college goals. The advisor plays a pivotal role in supporting learners by guiding them through the process of determining and implementing appropriate academic accommodations. Advisors work with learners to determine reasonable accommodations in consideration of the Ontario Human Rights Commission¿s ¿Guidelines on Accommodating Persons with a Disability¿ and work closely with learners to assess needs facilitate advocacy and collaborate with staff and faculty to ensure accommodations are appropriate and effective. This position requires extensive learner contact, dynamic problem-solving, communication and collaboration with college faculty, support staff and administrators as well as contact with community resources, school boards and learners¿ individual support systems.

Work Schedules:

This position has been designated as on-campus and is expected on-site 100% of the time.

What We Are Looking For:

Completion of four (4) year degree in Disability Studies, Occupational Health, Education

A minimum of three (3) years of work experience:

  • Working in a role that involves assessing functional limitations and providing accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Experience in occupational therapy or rehabilitation science is essential.
  • Experience working in post-secondary education or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience interpreting and applying detailed medical, psycho-educational, and other assessment reports to develop effective accommodation plans.
  • Advanced understanding of theoretical models of disability ( e.g. social model of disability) and their influence on their application in post-secondary education.
  • Strong skills in active listening, empathy, and inclusive communication to support diverse students.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and other related policies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a dynamic and diverse environment.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in using databases, learning management systems, and adaptive technology.
