The Team Lead supports a culture of Safety by promoting awareness, prevention, and the principles of the Internal Responsibility System (IRS) across the organization. This role interprets all applicable Health & Safety legislation and provides guidance to ensure that all employees and on-site personnel meet their compliance & due diligence obligations.

You will Bring
- 3-5 years of construction safety experience
- NSCO Certification
- Degree or Certificate in Health & Safety or similar
- Computer background including experience with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
- Vehicle and valid driver’s license to travel between the office and job sites
- CPR/First Aid Certification
Exceptional Skills Required
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation in the construction industry
- Experience in executing a Health & Safety strategy and contributing to the ongoing development of this strategy
- Experience in conducting Health & Safety orientations and site safety audits
- Ability to influence others to follow Safety Rules and Regulations
- Strong problem solving, communication and presentation skills
- Clean safety record and the ability to work with a variety of individuals
Key Responsibilities
- Champion Caivan’s Health & Safety program through administrative oversight, documentation accuracy, and strong internal communication
- Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations, make recommendations for their implementation and assessing any changes to the needs of the business
- Perform job site safety compliance inspections as needed, including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations
- Assist in gathering data to report weekly Health & Safety metrics
- Maintain SharePoint or other internal systems with up-to-date safety protocols and procedure documents
- Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company safety program by employees and subcontractors
- Regularly review near misses, conduct root cause analysis and make recommendations
- Maintain and communicate Safety Policies & Procedures to the factory and on site
- Assist in planning and organizing training programs/seminars for site and factory employees, regarding WHMIS, Fall Protection, Working at Heights, Competent Supervisor, New Employee Orientation, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid, industry specific related issues, etc.
- Ensure the timely completion of accident/injury reporting to the Human Resources Department
- Lead Head Office Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings, take Meeting Minutes and draft Minutes for review
- Update the Joint Health & Safety Committee communications board and ensure information is valid at all times
- Support operations, as necessary, and integrate Safety, Quality, and environmental initiatives into the operational process
- Coordinate Health & Safety training for employees, as required
- Verify that work instructions (safe work procedures, job hazard analysis etc.) are current and updated as the scope changes - responsible for a “look ahead” mentality to eliminate risks
- Assists in the review of incidents for cause identification and recommends corrective action - engages fully in a lesson-learned - continuous improvement process within the area of influence
- Perform other duties, as required
Working Conditions
- The job description implies the performance of repetitive tasks
- The majority of time is spent on construction sites
- PPE is required at all times in field settings (steel toes, hard hat, Hi-Vis)
- Work may involve exposure to weather, noise, dust, and high-risk activities
- The position is situated on a busy, high-volume construction site with constant activity, including large machinery
