THIS IS A TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT POSITION FOR A BARGAINING UNIT EMPLOYEE. Terms and conditions of employment are as outlined in the Support Staff Collective Agreement.

Reporting to the Employment Services Coordinator, this position works within Georgian College Career & Employment Community Services, in our Barrie location serving Simcoe County serving primarily youth and recent grads, but also community clients, community partners and local employers to increase employment opportunities for jobseekers. The incumbent will also provide targeted intake and assessment, community referrals, enhanced job search support and skills training/educational planning for jobseekers. The incumbent will also engage with community partners, employers and funders to deliver and promote Georgian College Career & Employment Community Services. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assesses job seekers and employers’ immediate needs through formal and informal intake processes
  • Refers clients to appropriate community and college supports based on client centred needs
  • Collaborates and develops transparent systems with community partners and funders to build pathways for effective referrals and service delivery for mutual clients
  • Facilitates, supports, and coaches clients in developing an effective return-to-work/school action plan using an employment and career counseling client-centered approach
  • Facilitates the purchase or reimbursement of a wide range of employment and disability-related support material, short-term training, travel, and work clothing to ensure an effective transition to employment
  • Works with Simcoe and Dufferin County employers and employer support groups (i.e. economic development/chamber of commerce or industry groups) to increase local labour market knowledge and develop employment opportunities for clients
  • Develops agreements with employers for on-the-job training for community participants and monitoring placements for effectiveness in supporting both employer and clients including submission of financial reimbursement
  • Provides support and coaching to clients and employers to ensure work placements are successful and clients retain employment
  • Acts as a liaison to community partners, employers, and employer groups to market services through events, community meetings, provincial and federal networks
  • Accurately tracks client intake, community and college referrals, documenting detailed employment action plan progress, job development and retention using multiple databases and funder driven systems

Qualifications:

  • Successfully completed a two-year postsecondary diploma in a relevant field of study that may include, but is not limited to Career and Work Counsellor, Human Services, Social Service Worker, or Business Administration/Human Resources
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in community-based employment or career service delivery or a relevant work environment
  • One-year post-graduate certificate in Human Resources, Career Development Practitioner, or Mental Health – Interprofessional Practice is an asset
  • Experience working within employment service delivery, community service delivery or labour market trend analysis within the local economic region to assist in the development of action plans
  • Computer skills and experience with databases (entering, analyzing and maintaining statistical data), career planning software (i.e. Career Cruising, web-based assessments, etc.), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel Outlook, etc.), and social media for program promotion (Facebook, Linked In, Snapchat and Instagram), updating marketing material (Cava and Adobe)
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and as part of a team to achieve program targets
  • Ability to maintain and adhere to confidentiality guidelines set out by program funder and Georgian College
  • Ability to travel to off campus sites as required
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and non-mandatory statutory holidays
  • Experience working with EOIS CaMS/OPS BPS Secure, ESCases systems an asset.
