Responsibilities

  • Manage treated lumber programs, including supplier negotiations, inventory planning, replenishment, and vendor performance.

  • Run and validate suggested-order batches for Manitoba and Saskatchewan branches, ensuring accurate purchasing decisions and inventory replenishment.

  • Create and release purchase orders while balancing immediate branch requirements with truckload and freight efficiencies.

  • Build and manage forward positions on dimensional lumber, panels, and treated products, including block-buy commitments and allocation planning.

  • Monitor commodity markets, pricing trends, futures, and industry reports to support buy/hold/cover decisions.

  • Maintain accurate replacement costs and provide market intelligence to support pricing strategies and planning activities.

  • Negotiate pricing, freight, supply programs, and volume commitments with mills, distributors, and treating partners.

  • Reconcile supplier confirmations against purchase orders and resolve shortages, substitutions, claims, and delivery issues.

  • Monitor inventory performance, stock turns, aged inventory, and below-cost SKUs while supporting corrective actions where required.

  • Coordinate purchasing activities across multiple banners and branches to maximize buying power, supplier programs, and rebate opportunities.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, process enhancements, and digital purchasing workflows.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of purchasing or trading commodity wood products in a Canadian LBM, wholesale, distribution, or mill-direct environment.
  • Strong knowledge of SPF lumber, studs, OSB, plywood, treated lumber, and commodity market pricing.
  • Experience with supplier management, purchasing, inventory replenishment, and ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical skills, including cost, freight, margin, and inventory analysis.
  • Proven success negotiating pricing, volume agreements, and supplier programs.
  • Experience managing treated lumber programs and building strong supplier relationships.
