Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Recruitment and Learner Engagement, the Student Conduct Officer oversees the administration of the non-academic student code of conduct and leads the investigation, resolution, and prevention of student behavioral concerns, as they relate to the VCC Non-Academic Student Code of Conduct. Ensures fair, consistent, and restorative processes while balancing risk management, student support, and campus safety and works collaboratively across departments. Provides guidance to faculty, staff, and academic leaders on matters related to student behavior and misconduct.
Duties & Responsibilities
Student conduct administration
- Administers all aspects of the College’s non-academic student code of conduct, including intake, assessment, case management, and resolution of complaints.
- Investigates student conduct complaints by gathering and analyzing evidence, ensuring procedural fairness, natural justice, and restorative approaches.
- Applies and recommends disciplinary measures, including immediate or interim actions when necessary.
- Utilizes informal resolution, mediation, and restorative practices to address student misconduct and support student learning and accountability.
- Provides triage, crisis response, and referrals to appropriate supports, including counselling, accessibility, advising, and external resources.
Student and stakeholder collaboration
- Communicates with students regarding a broad range of issues related to student conduct expectations at the College.
- Addresses and respond to concerns raised by students and instructors regarding student conduct.
- In collaboration with Safety and Security, assesses risks and responds to urgent or threatening situations involving students, in support of campus safety.
- Works with internal and external partners (e.g., academic departments/programs, Student Services, community agencies) on complex student issues.
- Provides leadership and guidance to the Committee concerned with Student Behaviour.
- Advises and support faculty, staff, and administrators in responding to concerns related to student behavior and misconduct across all areas of the College experience, including classrooms, online learning environments, College events, practicums, work placements, and College property.
Records and Documentation

Maintains confidential and operational documents (e.g., behavior contracts, MOUs) and ensures compliance with VCC policies and liaise with internal departments as needed.

Maintains centralized and accurate records of all student misconduct reports, investigations, and outcomes, ensuring compliance with privacy legislation.

Keeps current on best practices in student conduct, administrative law, restorative justice, trauma-informed approaches, and contributes to institutional initiatives that foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful campus environment.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Work, Criminology, Education, or Law.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience in student conduct, case management, residence life, counselling, or related areas.
- Demonstrated experience with conflict resolution, investigations, and application of policy within a post-secondary or comparable environment.
- Training or certification in areas such as restorative justice, mediation, trauma-informed practice, or mental health first aid considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Skills and Abilities
- Solid understanding of administrative law, procedural fairness, natural justice, and relevant provincial legislation (e.g., FIPPA).
- Strong commitment to equity, diversity, Indigenization, and decolonization, with demonstrated ability to apply culturally responsive practices.
- Exceptional ability to manage emotionally charged interactions with professionalism, empathy, and respect.
- Skilled in collecting and interpreting evidence, applying policy consistently, and developing fair, student-centered solutions.
- High level of awareness in balancing student rights with institutional responsibilities; proven ability to act with discretion, sensitivity, and fairness.
- Demonstrated accountability, solution-focused problem-solving, relationship-building, and the ability to anticipate and respond to emerging challenges.
Supplemental Information
Normal starting salary placement is between$76,023 and $101,364. Compensation beyond the control/mid-point requires approval by the Public Sector Employer’s Council Secretariat (PSEC).
