About the role

The Opportunity:

Based at the Maple Leaf Foods Western Distribution Centre (MWDC) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. This individual will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of the establishment’s HACCP System and related programs, as well as supporting manufacturing plants through the administration and execution of relevant business unit programs. The individual will identify opportunities for continuous improvement within established Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs and support the development and implementation of improvements to those programs.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • As the facility’s HACCP Specialist, implement and audit the execution of HACCP system updates, including maintenance and reassessment activities. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within existing programs. Report HACCP performance to Senior Management.
  • Develop, implement, and audit the execution of warehouse programs and standard operating procedures (SOPs & HACCP procedures) to ensure compliance with all regulatory and business requirements.
  • Inspect, determine, and document a final disposition for damaged and returned products.
  • Perform internal audits and support external audits (MLF internal audits, CFIA, McDonald’s, Merieux, BRC & any new added customer audits), leading sessions as assigned & Food Defense Team Leader.
  • Administer of the cold chain tracking program, monitoring the temperatures of trailers in transit as well as the temperatures at primary internal and external warehouses.
  • Inspect Co-manufactured products as scheduled, and other products as required. Track/trend and report findings to stakeholders.
  • Report results of investigations performed to determine disposition of suspect product including returns, refusals, potential temperature abuse, damaged goods, and product involved in accidents during transport.
  • Onsite resource to investigate and resolve hold and release discrepancies between SAP and the warehouse management system and respond to concerns arising from manufacturing facilities.
  • Foster a strong and respectful working relationship with warehouse management and offsite QA.
  • Daily verification and data upload of outbound CHEP. Daily data entry of inbound CHEP. Monitoring of CHEP pallet control. Determine and communicate CHEP pickups and returns. Lead annual CHEP pallet audit.
  • Train warehouse personnel in HACCP duties.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Post-secondary degree in Food Safety, Food Science, or related discipline.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a food related (meat preferred) Quality Assurance role (including internal auditing, GFSI/BRC compliance). HACCP Specialist experience a definite asset.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
    • Innovative problem solving in identifying opportunities and solutions.
  • Detail and results oriented with a high sense of energy & urgency.
    • Ability to work effectively both in a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to provide QA support across all shifts including weekends, as required.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
