THE ROLE

Position: Site Supervisor - Cobequid Pass Toll Plaza
Competition Number: CNS 2026-05-28
Location: Northern District (Great Village, NS)
Reports to: District Manager - Northern

Rate of Pay: $26.14 per hour.
Working Hours: Monday to Friday 0700 - 1500 (40 hours per week) (Site Supervisor is required to be available after duty hours)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leading, administration and discipline o f all Commissionaires employed at Cobequid Pass Toll Plaza.

  • Daily review of various reports and advise Plaza Staff by 0900 daily.
  • Review shift files noting any discrepancies found i n IOUs, AVI replenishments, cash pick-up and cash out slips.
  • Review Tour o f Duty Reports making note of any discrepancies and informing the proper Plaza staff.
  • Prepare and review all shift schedules make changes as required
  • Review Leave form requests.
  • Enter hours worked for all personnel into the "On Watch" pay system.
  • Perform duties of a collector when required.
  • Effectively coach, motivate and provide feedback when necessary
  • Investigate and correct any Customer Complaints as directed by General Manager or Toll Administrator.
  • Review Shift Supervisor log and add or delete directives as required.
  • Conduct a visual check o f Plaza Areas for breaches o f security and/or maintenance issues and safety hazards.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate delivery o f communication, including all Incident Reports.
  • Keeping the District Manager, client and other stakeholders apprised of all events and incidents as applicable.
  • Ensure SWI's (Site Work Instructions), Dress standards, and Safety Equipment regulations are adhered to Coordinate all required site-specific training.
  • Ensure monthly Operational Health & Safety reports are completed and submitted
  • Provide direction, assistance and leadership during emergencies.
  • Completing administrative duties a s required.
  • Supervising Training of new Commissionaires on site.
  • Access Control/Monitoring of upcoming additions to new Provincial Rest Stop areas.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the safety o f public and motorists while on site
  • Managing staff briefings for daily shift changes and Supervisor changes
  • Manage security and safety of personnel visits by maintenance staff and contractors
  • Cash management for all aspects of the site and ensuring stock levels and correct balance sheet reporting
  • Maintain accurate records, oversee, verify collision/ occurrence reports and ensure the Daily Occurrence Log is maintained to standard
  • Manage traffic control announcements to relevant third parties

WHO WE’RE SEEKING

  • climb multiple flights of stairs with ease
  • display good dexterity and balance
  • rely on all senses in assessing changes to the work environment

Skills and Experience:

  • Proficiency in basic math for toll fee calculations

  • Prior experience with cash handling and operating cash registers (preferred)

  • Comfortable managing cash transactions

  • Strong attention to detail for accurate cash handling, transaction processing and record keeping

  • Familiarity with national roadways and local points of interest

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and reliable attendance

Basic Requirements:

  • Be aged 19 or older;

  • Have eligibility to work in Canada;

  • Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted;

  • Be able to provide fingerprints and complete a criminal record check;

  • Be eligible to apply for, and attain, a Government of Canada personnel security screening.

  • Have a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License, or reliable transportation to/from the worksites.
