ABOUT THE POSITION

Explore Edmonton is seeking a Strategic Communications Advisor to join the Communications & Connections team.

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications, the Strategic Communications Advisor is responsible for developing and executing strategic communications initiatives, supporting media relations activities, creating communications products, and coordinating projects that help profile Edmonton as a destination and Explore Edmonton as an organization driving the visitor economy.

The successful candidate will build strong relationships across the organization and serve as a trusted communications advisor, ensuring consistent messaging and high-quality communications execution.

This recruitment is intended to fill two positions, each supporting a distinct portfolio within the organization: Produced Events & Venues (KDays, CFR, Farmfair International, the Edmonton EXPO Centre, and the Edmonton Convention Centre) and Attracted Events & Destination Stewardship (Sport & Culture, Business Events, and Destination Stewardship).

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with portfolio representatives to identify communications and media relations opportunities that support Explore Edmonton's projects and initiatives. 
  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans, ensuring consistent messaging across internal and external channels. 
  • Draft, edit, and maintain communications materials, including intranet content, website content, newsletters, social media content, speaking notes, and other communications products. 
  • Coordinate media events, identify media opportunities, and prepare key messages and speaking notes for organizational spokespeople. 
  • Maintain and update portfolio-specific key messages and communications resources. 
  • Collaborate with Communications, Marketing, External Relations, and Sponsorship teams to ensure projects are delivered effectively and with consistent messaging. 
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor project plans, communications plans, and Asana workflows. 
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver communications projects on time and to a high standard. 
  • Support administrative activities, including scheduling, task management, budget tracking, invoice processing, and communications analytics. 

What You'll Bring

  • A degree or diploma in Communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • 2-4 years of related communications experience. 
  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences. 
  • Experience developing and executing communications plans and strategies. 
  • Experience creating communications products such as reports, presentations, briefing notes, speeches, and key messages. 
  • Experience coordinating media events and supporting media relations activities. 
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Asana, and content management systems. 
  • A collaborative, proactive, and detail-oriented approach to work.
