Hours: 35 hours per week; includes weekdays, evenings and weekends
Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary: $60,000 - $62,500 annually
Reports To: Centre Manager

Nature and Scope

Our state-of-the-art centres of community offer a range of health, fitness, and aquatics programs for individuals and families.
The Program Supervisor is responsible for the delivery of high-quality Group Fitness & Child and Youth Services at the branch, along with recreation programs such as leagues, Non-Instructional Day programs, and Half-Day Camps, ensuring compliance with all YMCA Canada and YMCA BC policies, practices, and standards. This role oversees the recruitment, supervision, scheduling, payroll, coaching, and mentoring of all Child and Youth staff and volunteers, as well as contracted fitness instructors. The Program Supervisor leads by example to foster a positive, safe, and engaging environment for staff and participants. A key focus of the position is ensuring a “5 Star” YMCA Experience for all members, participants, and clients, while supporting membership recruitment and retention through service excellence.
Major Responsibilities:
- Communicate and escalate centre concerns to the Centre Manager, contributing to a respectful and inclusive workplace culture across all groups.
- Serve as Duty Manager as scheduled, overseeing facility operations and staff, resolving conflicts, and ensuring the safety of members and employees.
- Actively participate as a member of the YMCA leadership team by supporting employee engagement initiatives, inter-departmental projects, and community events.
- Represent the Centre and YMCA BC at community initiatives, partnerships, and local events to strengthen community presence and relationships.
- Lead the Child and Youth department, overseeing high-volume daily service delivery, staff and volunteer recruitment, coaching, performance management, scheduling, payroll, and related administrative duties including reports and statistics.
- Ensure all Child and Youth staff and volunteers maintain required certifications, program spaces are well-equipped and safe, schedules are effectively managed, and member feedback is used to continuously improve services.
- Provide leadership in implementing and maintaining YMCA Canada standards and programs.
- Coordinate the scheduling of adult recreation and fitness activities.
Qualifications**-you bring:**
- A combination of relevant experience/education, in administration, recreation, staff supervision and/or programming
- 2+ years post-secondary education in a relevant field preferred
- Previous experience in a supervisory position and in achievement of administrative tasks
- Experience using Microsoft programs such as Word, Teams, Excel and Outlook
- Proven self-starter, problem solving skills, organized and takes initiative
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with diverse membership, staff, volunteers, community, stakeholders and partners
- Excellent written communication and public speaking skills
- Demonstrated experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultures and backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity
- Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
