POSITION: Assistant, Development (Philanthropy)

STATUS: Permanent; Full-Time with benefits

SHIFT: 35 hours per week

LOCATION: Provincial Office in Vancouver, BC - Hybrid (2 days per week at the office)

WAGE: Salaried

As Assistant, Development (Philanthropy) at the BC SPCA, you’ll be joining one of the most innovative and successful fundraising teams in Canada. The BC SPCA is funded by compassionate animal lovers who helped us assist over 119,000 animals last year. Your work will help make all of this possible.

Set within the Public Engagement & Advancement (PE&A) team, the Assistant, Development (Philanthropy), provides administrative support to the Philanthropy team, assisting with the team's overall goal of increasing revenue and community support in alignment with the BC SPCA’s strategic priorities. The core focus of this role is to provide support to the team in actively growing the BC SPCA’s connections, profile, and support within the province.

The role of Assistant, Development (Philanthropy)

As part of the Community Giving Team, led by the Manager, Community Giving & Engagement, you’ll provide administrative support to the Philanthropy Team.

You’re responsible for supporting the Philanthropy team, consisting of the Community Giving and Major Giving Teams:

  • Provide administrative support for the Community Giving and Major Giving Teams
  • Maintain accurate data in Raiser’s Edge and export as needed to produce donor lists and reports to monitor revenue targets and other KPIs.
  • Work collaboratively with the Major Giving and Community Giving Teams
  • Support with any identified pre or post-event administrative support, as needed, for Signature Events (Offleashed Vancouver/Victoria & Fur Ball (Kelowna and Kamloops)
  • Support the Community Giving and Major Giving Teams in achieving the BC SPCA’s strategic goals

While every day is different, a day in this role might include:

  • Collaborate with a Community Animal Centre on the creation of posters, invitations, or other design requests for Community Giving events using Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
  • Work with a Community Animal Centre Manager and Generosity Services to process a large donation.
  • Draft and edit a stewardship report for the Major Giving team portfolio.
  • Submit and track team expenses and invoices.
  • Set up a Centre’s ticket page utilizing the online ticket platform
  • Conduct prospect research to identify potential new partners, donors, and granting organizations in support of annual funding priorities and special projects.
  • Support the Senior Officer, Community Giving, with Community Animal Centre budget process
  • Filter criteria for Centre donation lists and disseminate them to Centres.
  • Oversee Community Animal Centre gaming reports and track these gaming activities.

What skills have you developed?

  • Post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the employer.
  • Some fundraising experience preferred.
  • Excellent customer/donor service skills.
  • Experience in graphic design and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Comfort with learning new software and programs required.
  • Familiarity with a CRM, ideally Raiser’s Edge, would be considered an asset.
  • Superior organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional, written, oral, and persuasive communication skills, including an ability to relate respectfully to a diverse audience.
  • Proven ability to succeed with minimum supervision in an environment involving multiple priorities/deadlines.
  • Able to work some weekends and evenings as necessary.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional growth and education.
  • Working knowledge of the concepts of equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation.
  • Philosophical harmony with the mission, vision, values, and strategic direction of the BC SPCA.
