Role Responsibilities As a member of the Financial Operations team, the Financial Analyst role plays an integral role in supporting the ministry's financial operations by providing information, advice, and operational expertise in the administration of the Procurement Card (P‑Card) program, Vendor Maintenance and Expense Claims. This includes clarifying expense eligibility, resolving transactional issues, training staff on system processes and ensuring appropriate segregation of duties within financial systems. The role requires sound judgment, creativity, and analytical thinking to interpret financial policies, troubleshoot complex issues, and develop practical solutions for both internal and external clients. The incumbent must be able to assess unique situations, apply policy consistently and communicate recommendations clearly to stakeholders at all levels. Job Responsibilities:
Conduct compliance reviews by analyzing samples of financial transactions to ensure adherence to legislation, departmental policies and established financial controls. Review and analyze transactions posted to various GL accounts to ensure accuracy, proper coding, and appropriate use of funds, cost centers and WBS elements. Prepare journal entries to correct errors and Reconcile GL accounts related to P‑Card and expense claims. Act as the primary contact for vendor master data, overseeing vendor set‑ups, changes and deletions. Provide information and documentation to auditors throughout the year. Support ministry's financial reporting requirements including compiling quarterly financial information, public disclosures, and year‑end reporting and audit.

Two-year diploma in a related field plus 2-years related experience; or equivalent.
Equivalency: Directly related education considered on the basis of 1-year of education for 1-year of experience Assets:
Experienced in preparing adjusting journal entries, reconciling General Ledger accounts and identifying and correcting discrepancies related to procurement cards and employee expense claims. Use of accounting and/or other software to support data manipulation and reporting (i.e. SAP, Oracle, Concur). Knowledge of the Government of Alberta's applicable legislation (e.g., Financial Administration Act, Fiscal Planning and Transparency Act, Government Organizational Act and Alberta Public Agencies Act). Understanding the application of accounting policies, practices, and theories (GAAP) and Knowledge of Public Sector accounting Standards (PSAS). Proven ability to conduct detailed compliance reviews of financial transactions, ensuring adherence to legislation, organizational policies and established financial controls. Experienced in supporting quarterly and annual financial reporting processes, public disclosures, year-end close activities and audit deliverables while meeting strict deadlines.
