Scope

Surrey's Park Partnership team aims to increase meaningful community connections to park spaces through engaging and educational park programs, special events, and volunteer opportunities. We believe that access to nature and outdoor spaces helps develop an engaged and healthy community
The successful candidate will support park programming activities in outdoor environments, interact with the public, work collaboratively within a team, and promote park user engagement under the guidance of supervisory staff

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver programming at Surrey's feature gardens.
  • Coordinate and support delivery of special events hosted by Park Partnerships.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and provide direction to volunteers, instructors, and junior staff.
  • Assist with seasonal program coordination including planning, scheduling, staff training, and supervision.
  • Maintain program records, statistics, and reports.
  • Research and develop new program ideas.
  • Support administrative duties, promotions, marketing activities, and public inquiries.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 and some post-secondary education from a recognized institution supplemented by 2 years of related experience including supervision experience supporting or coordinating community service work or area of specialty.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a safe driving history.
  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR C and AED certificate.
  • High Five Certification or an acceptable equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal, planning and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, staff and the public
  • Interest in horticulture and gardening is considered an asset.
  • Broad understanding and working knowledge of park-based programs, their purpose and objectives.
  • Previous experience working within a Municipal environment is an asset.

Hourly Rate: $28.16

Conditions of Employment

This position requires completion of a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
