Dispatcher
Southland Transportation (STL) is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Dispatcher to support its Geraldton-based transportation operations. Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the Dispatcher plays a key role in ensuring the safe and reliable movement of students by coordinating drivers, tracking route performance, and resolving real-time service issues.
This is a full-time position worked as a split-shift from 6:30 am to 11:00 am and 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
Pay: $50,000 - $60,000 annually
Key Responsibilities:
- Dispatch drivers daily to ensure all routes run safely and efficiently
- Monitor real-time vehicle activity using GPS software, respond promptly to issues or delays, and communicate internally as needed
- Act as the main point of contact for drivers, relaying schedule changes, safety updates, or route adjustments
- Support coordination with the Operations Supervisor for any changes to individual students' transportation needs, ensuring those changes are implemented smoothly and effectively
- Track and report attendance, route coverage, vehicle issues, and driver concerns
- Assist with new driver onboarding by providing route briefings and dispatch support
- Follow all company policies and union guidelines to maintain a respectful and compliant workplace
- Ensure all required paperwork/requests is completed in an accurate and timely manner
- Have a basic understanding of the school bus fleet
- Schedule and assign charters as required
- Communicate and collaborate with maintenance staff to schedule vehicle repairs, inspections and preventive maintenance while minimizing service disruptions
Qualifications:
- Ability to multi-task, stay organized, and work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel
- Excellent customer service skills with a professional and courteous approach when interacting with the public and co-workers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to listen attentively and respond with empathy and professionalism
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Good knowledge and understanding of company policies, procedures and basic bus operating practices
- Strong map reading skills with familiarity of the Geraldton area, including major road systems and key locations
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
