Do you have exceptional knowledge of the rules of the road? If this sounds like you, consider an exciting and rewarding career as a Driver Examiner with ICBC.   This is a permanent full-time vacancy for the Fort St. John Driver Licensing Office.   Driver Examiners do more than administer road tests – they play a vital role in keeping BC’s roads safe while supporting customers through meaningful milestones. It’s meaningful work that makes a real difference in communities throughout the province.   At ICBC, you’ll work in a close‑knit, respectful team environment with supportive supervisors and the ability to truly “leave work at work”. The Driver Examiner role offers stable, unionized employment with strong benefits, a pension, generous time‑off, and comprehensive training to help you succeed. You will have opportunities to grow your skills over the long-term, all while maintaining a healthy work-life balance in a role where your expertise is valued and your impact is tangible.   Between road tests, you will be part of the Driver License Center Client Services team providing customers with information on Driver Licensing processes and procedures. The role requires strong time management and organizational skills, the ability to exercise sound judgment, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service in all interactions.     Key Responsibilities:

Conduct road tests for commercial and passenger vehicles (Class 1–8) to assess drivers’ knowledge, skills, and ability to operate vehicles safely. Administer re-examinations as required under the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations. Apply sound judgment and decision-making in evaluating driver performance. Provide clear, constructive feedback to customers following their road tests. Support customers at the Driver Licensing Centre by explaining licensing processes, answering questions, and processing fees and fines between road test appointments. Manage your schedule effectively to meet daily testing targets and service expectations. Work independently while contributing to a supportive team focused on customer service and road safety. Adapt to varied working conditions, including weather changes and customer vehicle environments.

    Position Requirements:

Strong customer service skills with the ability to create a positive and professional experience for every customer. Confidence making independent decisions in challenging and fast-paced situations. The ability to deliver clear, constructive feedback – even when the message may be difficult for customers to hear. Comfort working in varied weather conditions and inside customer vehicles. Excellent time-management skills and the ability to stay organized while working independently. Solid computer and data-entry skills; cash-handling experience is an asset.

     Additional requirements include:

Successful completion of a health assessment based on the job requirements. A clean criminal record check through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, as required under the Criminal Records Review Act. A valid Class 5 BC driver's license (or higher) with a clean driving record. Ability to meet the minimum standard on a data-entry assessment required for the role.

The Driver Examiner position involves working in all weather conditions including extreme heat or cold. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of the Class 5/7 training and testing during the probationary period.   Some locations may require regular overnight travel to conduct road tests or support nearby communities. Overnight travel may also be required for training, meetings, and coverage needs within a specific region. Hours of operation are subject to change, and work shifts may be scheduled Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday.      Why join ICBC as a Driver Examiner – here is what we offer:   Meaningful, hands-on work
