Location: Vanderhoof Community Centre (186 Columbia Street, Vanderhoof)

Terms: Temporary, Full-Time

Hours: 35-40 hours per week

Shifts: Monday - Friday, some evenings or weekends may be required

Start Date: June 25, 2025

End Date: August 28, 2025

Salary: $18.25 per hour

Reports To: Supervisor, Recreation

This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant.

Nature & Scope

Recreation Leaders will plan and facilitate recreation camp programs for a variety of ages from 3 years old to seniors. Staff YMCA Booth at community events such as Farmers Market, Canada Day and Rivers Day. As a leader within the team, the Recreation Leader will support ensuring the facility is operating efficiently and meeting Association standards of: convenience, clean and well maintained, safe, friendly and welcoming, builds positive relationships, providing opportunities to learn and develop and is staff by engaged and knowledgeable individuals at all times. Furthermore, the Recreation Leader will ensure that YMCA mission and core values are being delivered in our daily operations.

Major Responsibilities**-** in this position, you will**:**

  • Responsible for assuring all programming is planned, facilitated, and followed.
  • Ability to work as a team to devotedly supervise and facilitate participants and daily programs - both in small groups and at community events
  • Understand the importance of safety and demonstrate so through responsible leadership by always exhibiting model character
  • Enthusiastic and positive nature
  • Assists in maintaining facility cleanliness
  • Supports high service standards and satisfaction ratings throughout the Centre
  • Assist in supporting the Centre's activities
  • Maintain an atmosphere of achievement that inspires self and others to succeed at the highest levels
  • Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained amongst all members and staff, including all locker rooms and spectator viewing areas.
  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and clean environment, including all program areas, common spaces, and washrooms
  • Assist with training new staff/volunteers in procedures and practices
  • Remain flexible – willing to learn new skills, alter shifts
  • Attend staff meetings, planning sessions and training events as required
  • Maintain regular attendance, punctuality and be appropriately dressed and well groomed

Qualifications**-you bring:**

  • Current Standard First Aid certificate with CPR level C & AED (valid within 2 years)
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 5 days per week
  • Experience working with children - preferred
  • Demonstrated high level of customer service skills
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
  • 3 professional references
