About the Role
Seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Category Assistant for a 1-year contract position. This is an exceptional opportunity to gain valuable experience in both traditional category management and the fast-paced world of e-commerce. You will provide essential support to the Category Director and the E-commerce Manager, contributing to critical processes that drive our categories forward.
Reporting to the Category Director, this role offers a unique blend of responsibilities, encompassing foundational category administration, supplier support, and data management, alongside active involvement in digital merchandising and online product lifecycle management. If you are a highly organized, proactive individual with strong analytical and communication skills, eager to learn and make an immediate impact in a leading retail environment, this contract is for you.
Key Responsibilities
Category & Supplier Administration:
- Administer comprehensive product and vendor documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness across all systems.
- Maintain precise product listing information, ensuring data integrity for both physical and digital channels.
- Support category administration by managing and updating data for flyers, seasonal programs, marketing campaigns, and merchandising plans.
- Manages product sample requests to facilitate merchandising set-up and planogram development.
- Act as a primary communication point, effectively relaying essential category updates and information to store teams.
E-commerce & Digital Merchandising Support:
- Support the end-to-end item onboarding and lifecycle management process for new product launches across category and e-commerce platforms.
- Coordinate new product listings for e-commerce, assisting in the timely acquisition of high-quality digital assets (images, descriptions) from vendors.
- Collaborate closely with the Quality Assurance team to help ensure all regulated (e.g., OTC) products meet strict compliance standards for online display.
- Assist with digital merchandising workflows, ensuring alignment of assortment and product information across various systems to support timely and compliant online execution.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
- Prepare and contribute to sales, financial, and e-commerce performance data for weekly reports, category reviews, and strategic supplier meetings.
- Conduct data retrieval and analysis to support planogram development, promotional effectiveness, and overall category planning.
Promotional & Marketing Execution Support:
- Prepare and update essential worksheets for flyer, seasonal, marketing, and merchandising initiatives.
- Support promotional data input and execution for category campaigns and flyer programs.
- Proofread and verify the accuracy of flyer, seasonal, and marketing materials to ensure brand consistency and error-free communication.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Act as a key liaison with internal departments such as Marketing, Customer Service, Planogram, Logistics, Inventory, and Promotions to proactively resolve issues and ensure seamless operational workflows.
What You'll Bring
Qualifications & Experience:
- College diploma or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, commerce, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 1+ years of relevant experience in a retail, category management, or e-commerce support role, preferably within a large retail or CPG organization.
- Proven ability to quickly learn new systems and processes.
Skills & Competencies:
- Analytical & Technical Acumen: Strong Excel proficiency (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables) for data analysis and reporting. Familiarity with merchandising systems (JDA, SAP) is an asset.
- Organizational & Detail Orientation: Exceptional organizational skills (prioritization, deadline management, meticulous record-keeping) with high attention to detail, ensuring accuracy.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication (editing, proofreading). Professional, diplomatic interaction with diverse stakeholders. Proactive, self-motivated, and collaborative.
- Industry Knowledge: Foundational understanding of category management, retail merchandising, and e-commerce operations. Eagerness to deepen understanding of traditional and digital retail strategies.
