REPORTING:Under the general direction of the Manager, Registration and Telemedicine. DUTIES:1. Greet all patients, and make every effort to ensure they have a positive experience.2. Validate health card numbers with the Ministry of Health. 3. Ensure positive patient identification on all patients at time of registration.4. Verify patient demographic information and insurance information and edit the information as required.5. Prepare and apply identity armbands or take required photo for electronic medical record on all patients as required. 6. Register all in-person and virtual out-patient appointments.7. Print out any required documents to support appointment or treatment.8. Code captures for medical, radiation and surgical oncology. 9. Screen all patients for Acute Respiratory Illness (ARI) and Antibiotic Resistant Organism (ARO) inform infection control and receiving department as required.10. Alert areas of patients that were flagged as Acting Out Behaviour (AOB).11. Direct patients to relevant areas of the Shirley & Jim Fielding Northeast Cancer Centre and hospital as required. 12. Update and maintain patient information systems.13. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.14. Contribute to learner development by providing academic support, mentorship, preceptorship and supervision as required. 15. Participate in hospital training as required.16. Assist with improvement initiatives as required.17. Perform other duties as required. QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION AND TRAINING:1. Minimum of a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent (i.e. General Education Development (GED) or Academic and Career Entrance (ACE)). 2. Graduate from a recognized Medical Office Administration course or related program is preferred.3. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required. EXPERIENCE:1. Recent relevant experience within the last year is preferred. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:1. Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency in Medical terminology.2. Demonstrated ability to type a minimum of 50 words per minute. 3. Demonstrated skill in data entry.4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast-paced environment.5. Demonstrated computer skills with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and applicable patient information systems. 6. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with patients, families and healthcare workers.7. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.8. Ability to prioritize tasks. 9. Demonstrated compliance with HSN’s privacy policy.10. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients. PERSONAL SUITABILITY:1.
