Consider this rewarding opportunity with the Program Modernization and Appointments Branch, where you will directly contribute towards expanding Ontarian's access to justice by providing administrative duties in support of the appointment process for Judges and Justices of the Peace of the Ontario Court of Justice.

The Program Modernization and Appointments Branch at the Ministry of the Attorney General is responsible for the ministry's public appointments to all agencies and adjudicative tribunals. The branch also supports the two advisory committees responsible for making judicial appointment recommendations to the Attorney General and provides direct public services in granting commissioner and notary status.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
• liaise with the members of the public and legal profession to provide technical and procedural information regarding the appointment process for the Provincial Courts Judges, Justices of the Peace and the Small Claims Court Deputy Judges
• receive applications for Judicial and/or Justices of the Peace appointments
• arrange for the insertion of the Judicial and/or Justices of the Peace vacancy advertisements and appointment information on the Ontario Courts website and support broader outreach efforts
• support the committee and the applicants throughout the various stages of the assessment process
• manage committees files
• process travel expense statements and per diem claims for committee members
• provide and maintain statistical reports on Judicial and/or Justices of the Peace appointments

How do I qualify?

Mandatory:

• you are able to type 50 words per minute

Judgement, Organizational and Analytical Skills:

• you have the ability to use good judgement, tact and discretion to comply with confidentiality requirements of the appointments process for Judicial and Justice of the Peace positions when handling inquiries and documentation
• you have organizational skills to set priorities, organize meetings and arrange travel and accommodation arrangements
• you have analytical skills to determine extent of information to be provided when answering inquiries
• you can determine priorities and completing tasks within established deadlines

Communication Skills:

• you have demonstrated oral communication skills to provide accurate information on program area to staff, lawyers, judiciary, agencies and the general public and to make travel arrangements with agents
• you have demonstrated written communication skills to draft correspondence from verbal instructions and prepare routine responses and proofread documents
• you have interpersonal skills to assist others, take initiative and fill in for other support staff

Technical Knowledge and Experience:

• you have the ability to acquire and apply knowledge of hiring and appointments process/criteria for Judges and Justice of the Peace to provide detailed information to interested candidates, the public and the legal community
• you have the ability to interpret and apply knowledge of procedures relevant legislation (i.e. Court of Justice Act, Justices of the Peace Act)

Computer Skills:

• you are proficient in common software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and the Internet
