Responsibilities

The Payroll Clerk is responsible for assisting in all aspect of payroll processing for all pay cycles. The successful candidate is responsible for providing full-cycle payroll for our unionized and non-unionized employees, including balancing payroll, reconciliations of payroll accounts, preparing required fillings and processing year-end.

  • Maintain, update and process payroll records for employees by collecting, calculating and entering data;
  • Balance and reconcile payroll accounts, analysing and scrutinizing payroll anomalies;
  • Process required fillings, including but not limited to source deductions, WSIB, EHT, union dues, FRO/Garnishments;
  • Prepare and process documents regarding university benefits;
  • Prepare and submit Record of Employment (ROE) as required;
  • Respond to employee enquiries by answering questions and requests;
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information;
  • Prepare necessary reports by compiling and reconciling data;
  • Maintain payroll operations by following policies and procedures;
  • Contribute to team effort by assisting other payroll clerks as required;
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential at all time;
  • Perform other duties directly related to payroll function as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or accounting preferred;
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification is required;
  • Three to five years of computerized payroll experience, performing full cycle payroll administration in a unionized environment is an asset;
  • Advance knowledge in excel spreadsheet software;
  • Ability to do calculations quickly and accurately;
  • Solid knowledge of relevant provincial legislation, policies and regulations;
  • Proficient computer skills with working knowledge of relevant software (Word, Colleague Payroll System, Gmail, Google drive);
  • Excellent communication abilities with aptitude in problem-solving;
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential situation;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with minimum supervision and meet deadlines;
  • Exceptional multitasking and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work in both official languages; French is an asset.

The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
