Docking and Engineering Specification Writer

Halifax, Nova Scotia (Hybrid).

Position Summary

Thales Canada is looking for a Docking and Engineering Specification Writer (DESW-E) to support its Non-Combatant In-Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy.

The Thales Docking and Engineering Specification Writer will work with the Thales LCMM & Engineering and Service Delivery Teams to provide project management and technical support to various Royal Canadian Navy's Non-Combatant Platforms. This includes but not limited to the preparation of docking specifications and other technical support activities for the LCMM & Engineering Team.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Preparation, and review of docking specifications and docking facility work packages, technical proposals and scopes of work.

  • Applying lessons learned from previous dockings to support baseline documentation updates.

  • Defining guidelines for hull repair specifications.

  • Reviewing Engineering, Certification Management and other Processes and identify areas of improvement.

  • Prepare documented work scopes suitable for solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEM's, manufacturers, suppliers, repair and testing facilities, or specialist service providers.

  • Providing technical input into problems associated with equipment or system malfunction, including failure analysis and solution development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3-year technical program diploma in a marine technical field, or Degree in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Minimum of five years maritime experience in Ship Repair, Ship Building or Ship Operations.

  • 5+ years' experience in project management of ship repair and engineering change projects.

  • Demonstrated experience with the planning, management and execution of ship dockings and dry dock refits.

  • Familiar with conducting weight and stability calculations and associated tools, and lightship surveys.

  • Previous experience with Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard.

Special Position Requirements

  • Predominantly office work but will be required to work in dockyards and onboard Naval ships.

  • Maybe required to undertake inspections in machinery spaces of Naval ships involving bending and twisting.
