Position Title: Senior Compensation Specialist

Team and Location: People and Culture - Calgary, AB, Houston, TX, Montreal, QC or Vancouver, BC

Position Summary:

As part of a collaborative and tight-knit compensation team, you will have opportunities to contribute, influence, and leave your mark on compensation programs and process development that will extend across our fast-growing enterprise.

With the leadership of a Compensation Manager, you will support Parkland’s compensation philosophy and strategy to help motivate more than 6,000 employees across 25 countries. We are a compensation team that works in lockstep to achieve great things and are looking for that piece of the puzzle that will help us on our journey to create the most effective compensation function in town.

The Compensation team is one of five areas within our Total Rewards centers of excellence (Compensation, Benefits and Disability Management, HR Information Systems, Payroll, and Learning Management System). Working in our head office in Calgary and interacting with leaders and colleagues at all levels of seniority in Canada, the U.S., and the Caribbean, the successful candidate will be an analytically astute and seasoned business partner who is experienced in supporting the needs of the clients. Creative, organized, and a natural collaborator and relationship builder, you are able to build and leverage strong internal and external networks to get the job done with a demonstrable track record of project planning, change management, and execution.

How you’ll add value:

  • By working with teams & leadership across Parkland to support diverse compensation programs including base salary and incentive plans, completing job evaluations, reviewing market pricing, and advising on and approving compensation recommendations.
  • Supporting Parkland’s annual performance management and compensation cycles through data analysis, reporting, troubleshooting, and the development of strategic communications.
  • Supporting and leading broad and transformative compensation projects in which you will partner with our People & Culture Business Partners, Talent Management and the business to create solutions that attract and motivate our team.
  • Providing strategic and administrative support with Parkland’s LTIP program (RSU, PSU, Stock Options, DSU) while working closely with, Shareworks, and our participants.
  • Work with Business Partners and leaders to assign job levels to roles in the organization using a Job Architecture model.
  • Dive into market data to ensure that our compensation planning, compensation frameworks and strategy are aligned to our goals and company strategies.
  • Proactively bringing market intelligence to the decisions we make to ensure our compensation programs are relevant in line with our compensation philosophy.

Technical Skills and Innovation

  • You are an "excel enthusiast" and appreciate learning new and more effective ways to change the way we work by leveraging tools and improving processes.
  • Passionate about leveraging PowerPoint to craft compelling narratives, continuously seeking improvement with each new presentation. If you have familiarity with MECE (Mutually Exclusive, Collectively Exhaustive) and Pyramid principles for clear and structured communication, great, and if not, you are googling it right now because you want to know.
  • You're most comfortable working with large amounts of data and conducting analysis however, the definition of a great day at work would be using the outcome insights to make informed recommendations, ask thought-provoking questions and bring fresh thinking to the table.
  • You have HR Information Systems (HRIS) experience working (and preferably implementing) in systems such as UKG (UltiPro), SAP, Successfactors, Workday, and curiosity on how the back-end data comes together.
  • You have experience in leading the preparation of the management information circular (‘proxy’).
