Description

The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 10 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This posiiton reports to the Principal Investigator.

The Research Assistant's primary purpose is to support the research team and the Principal Investigator in the coordination and administration of pregnancy-related research projects. Success in the role will require judgment and decision making, detail-oriented focus, following processes and procedures set by the PI, and collaboration with the research team.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Assist and support ethics applications submission
  • Take the lead on study promotions
  • Identify and recruit study participants
  • Obtains informed consent from participants
  • Timely follow-up visits with participants
  • Enters data and ensures collected data submitted is accurate
  • Must maintain the ethical and confidentiality standards of the University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services
  • Good relationships are established and maintained with all research project members and participants.
  • Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, and the research team including the PI and the Clinical Trials Coordinator
  • Ensures relevant research methodology is applied and proper procedures are followed including the ICH GCP guidelines
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a health science related field or equivalent.
  • Understanding of and experience with the University of Calgary clinical research process
  • Understanding of and experience with Alberta Health Services and Connect Care
  • Knowledge and experience with the University of Calgary Conjoint Health Research Ethics Board and related ethical standards
  • Completion of ICH/GCP training
  • Clinical Research Certification (CCRP) and Membership (SOCRA) an asset
  • Good judgment and decision making
  • Ability to perform self-directed work
  • Detail-oriented focus
  • Ability to work independently and also able to work with and communicate in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Superior organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer and data entry skills
  • Have significant initiative, be self-motivated and strive for personal development
