Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision, the Senior Linguistics Specialist is responsible for the development and delivery of Wawanesa’s corporate translation program. In supporting various internal clients, the Senior Linguistics Specialist leads the coordination of quality, consistency and timely translation services on behalf of the organization. This position is based in our Montreal Region Office and reports to the Manager, Communications located in Winnipeg, MB.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


• Oversee Wawanesa’s corporate translation program to meet the evolving needs of the business in Canada, including the review and evaluation of translation vendors to develop a comprehensive translation program.
• Create and maintain the linguistics role and processes for the organization through the development and implementation of recommendations to build and modernize translation service offerings.
• Serve as a resource to the organization regarding legal language requirements in Canada, accurately adhering to all compliance regulations and legal requirements (including Quebec Language Laws).
• Establish and maintain a quality assurance and auditing process to ensure translation standards are adhered to which includes the review of translated material received from our translation vendor.
• Build and maintain relationships with translation vendors and coordinate the delivery of high quality work that arrives to the client on time; this includes tracking status and progress of all translation requests, monitoring translation costs and reviewing translation vendor invoices.
• Ensure quality and brand voice are on point and verifying that the intent of the message is preserved through review and proofreading of material from translation vendors.
• Liaise with internal clients to understand translation needs and messaging.
• Consult with subject matter experts to develop glossaries and terminology databases to be used in translations, ensuring quality and consistency in all translated documents.
• Prioritize work to meet deadlines.
• Provide linguistic support and service to the RVP, Eastern Canada and the Quebec and Maritime Regions as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


• Post-secondary degree in French language studies, French/English translation, or equivalent.
• Minimum of five to eight years of experience in a similar role in a corporate environment.
• Complete fluency in both English and French.
• Proven communications skills with excellent command of the English and French language, both written and spoken.
• Experience in managing and coordinating translation vendors and/or translators.
• Highly developed skills in terminology research.
• High degree of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
• Superior organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
• Self-motivated individual with the ability work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build relationships internally and externally.
• Strong working knowledge with MS Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Insurance specific experience in French would be considered an asset.
