INTRO

The PHAI is a federal initiative to clean-up low-level radioactive waste situated in the Municipality of Port Hope and the Municipality of Clarington. The project involves remediating a large number of contaminated sites to establish clean-up criteria and consolidating the wastes in a new engineered mound (one in each community). The Project Coordinator, under the supervision of the Scheduling, Information & Data Management Lead, involves report and close out writing for the identified Small Scales Sites in Port Hope, Ontario. The work is carried out in four phases: site characterization, remediation assessment and planning, remediation field work, & project close-out. As a member of the Small Scale Sites Remediation team, this position plays a key role in the project close out phase of field activities.

DUTIES

The Project Coordinator is part of the Historic Waste Programs Management Office (HWP MO) who will interact directly with internal stakeholders and other contributing parties involved in the development and implementation of the management of the Small Scale Sites remediation project located at a variety of sites around the Port Hope Community.

Some (not all!) duties include:

  • Assist with the definition, coordination and implementation of the various engineering work packages under the scope of services described as Small Scale Sites (i.e., developing strategies, developing schedules, etc.).

  • Review technical studies and detailed reports prepared by survey and design consultants and other contributing parties to ensure high quality (accuracy and appropriateness) and consistency with formats/requirements to CNL technical documentation standards.

  • Complete research for the Manager, Small Scale Sites Remediation leading to the development of practical and economical solutions to specific problems encountered by the project.

  • Monitor progress on engineering and design work activities, studies and contracts, against standards, objectives and specifications and in turn prepare reports on the same.

  • Monitor deliverables for accuracy and adequacy, check calculations and assess needs for potential changes in scope, cost, schedule or quality.

  • Prepare/review various project documents including Technical Scope of Work, Statement of work, project schedules and project budgets.

  • Prepare close out documents and reports specific to the Small Scale Site remediation activities.

  • S/he will interface with the site characterization and remediation teams to ensure coordination of the handover of reports.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Project Coordinator should hold a degree in engineering with a minimum 5+ years of experience managing projects and contracts, with at least 3 years on environmental consulting, construction, and/or remediation/remediation design contracts.

Job-Related Competencies:

  • OAECTT registration/certification and minimum 5 years of experience is an asset.

  • AUTOCAD is an asset

  • Knowledge of engineering procedures and practices, organization and quality processes.

  • Good understanding of compliance program requirements and knowledgeable of procurement practices and has some experience in contract management skills.

  • Excellent writing skills.

  • Knowledge of project management principles (scope, schedule, time, quality, risk) and hands-on experience in the management of engineering activities during the various phases of a project such as the PHAI (i.e., concept, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, operation and decommissioning).

  • Technical background or demonstrated understanding of engineering and/or construction contracts.

This team player must have superior verbal communication and technical writing skills as well as the ability to work effectively with personnel of varying disciplines.
