BDO founded its first accounting firm in Winnipeg, MB, in 1921. The accounting and consulting firm is now the fifth largest in the world, with more than 1,500 offices in more than 130 countries, employing nearly 73,000 people. BDO professionals have the expertise to advise all types of audiences, from SMEs, to very large businesses, community organizations and owner-operators, in all sectors of activity.
In Canada, BDO employs approximately 3,600 people in just over 125 offices. The firm favors small teams with a good partner-to-staff ratio to support employees' training and professional development experience. Students are widely welcomed at BDO, where they are mentored to benefit from programs, training, and participate in mandates to develop their experience and skills.
Training opportunities (learning and development) internally and externally are offered to all staff, regardless of function or level. Many in-house trainings are available through BDO University, but it is possible for employees to take the courses of their choice outside. For employees who want to move internationally BDO offers missions of a few months, at 2 years, and international exchange projects. All offices also offer a strong mentoring program and competitive benefits.
In Canada, BDO supports communities both through its national programs and by encouraging the individual initiatives of its employees, giving them the necessary time (annual leave) to focus on the causes they value more.
At the firm level, BDO has partnered with the FCC 'Drive away Hunger' campaign since 2008. All offices across the country hold local events every year to raise awareness and collect donations for food banks. That's more than 3.5 million pounds of food today! The firm became a sponsor of Hockey Canada in 2017 to support young communities and also supports it through its "Goals for Kids" program.
